Warren H Williams

Warren H Williams first started playing guitar with his father, the legendary Gus Williams, at the age of six. He was brought up on country music but also pursued the pleasures of rock and roll, developing his guitar skills. Country music was in his blood however and Warren soon went back to country as a songwriter and recording artist and talented multi-instrumentalist.


Born at the remote community of Hermannsburg about 120kms west of Alice Springs, Warren H Williams is now one of the biggest indigenous names on the country music scene in Australia. With his latest ventures illustrating his evolving talents,with a theatre production “The Magic Coolamon”, commencing in 2007 with future prospects on the horizon, to his latest challenge of a country music show television production with NITV “Pmarra Country”.
Warren’s most recent album, Be Like Home, out now (released October 2005) features 12 original songs including the very popular Learn My Song plus a favourite cover song of She Don’t Like Diamonds. The last few years have been extremely rewarding for Warren, being announced in January 2008 as an inductee into the Hands Of Fame at Tamworth. Winning the “NAIDOC artist of the year 2006″ .He has also won “Most Popular Song 2005” for the all time favourite Dreamtime Baby and “Male Artist of the Year 2004” at the Inaugural NT Indigenous Music Awards.
Places In Between, the previous album (May 2002) of original rocking country songs, was also influenced by the time spent touring during 2001 to promote his previous album. A grant from the Australia Council to complete this album has ensured a top quality production team working to produce this great album.
Where My Heart Is (Deadly Sounds “Album of the Year” winner for 2001) is Warren’s third album of original country ballads, the sounds of which cross readily into mainstream listening. The focus is on his unique vocal style, where rocking calypso feels intersperse the romantic stories of remembered loves and homeland yearnings.
His second album (Country Friends & Me) featuring duets with some of Australia’s highest profile country singers, launched Warren well into mainstream media throughout Australia.He shares this 1998 released album, Country Friends & Me, with invited guests John Williamson, Greg Champian, Jimmy Little, Johnny Chester & Ted Egan . The duet, Raining on the Rock, with John Williamson is one of Australia’s most recognised country songs ever. This 18 track CD features many of Warren’s original songs and several co-productions with other famous artists who dropped by CAAMA studios during the recording.
Western Wind was Warren’s first album, recorded at CAAMA in 1995 using many top quality Territory musicians. The full band rocks this album along with some great up tempo songs. He is a prolific songwriter and will go to great lengths to perform and promote his music live – touring the remote communities of Central Australia and all the way across to the big city stages.
Warren currently in 2008 is filming for his exciting new country music TV show Pmarra Country,preparing for the commencment of his theatre production The Magic Coolamon again, and still touring with John Williamson. Warren also was part of the production of a theartre presentation in South Australia about the anthropologist Ted Strelhow, as a cultural advisor,which premiered in Febuary 2008.In 2007 Warren was touring with John Williamson on the Wildlife Warrior Tour, and his theatre production of the first The Magic Coolamon premiered in March of 2007. In 2006 Warren spent most of the year touring with John on the Stone & Wire Tour.In 2005 Warren toured with John Williamson & Pixie Jenkins on the very successful national Chandeleir Of Stars Tour.The trio recorded a live album, released in 2004 - Mates On the Road, taking this tour to all states of Australia & some overseas shows. The True Blue Reunion Tour featuring these same artists which began in 2005 and then metamorphosed into the Chandelier of Stars Tour.
The highlight of Warren H Williams’ career was to receive a standing ovation when performing at Tamworth festival in 1998 with John Williamson . More recently,receiving the honour of being announced in 2008 as an inductee into the Hands Of Fame in Tamworth. Warren has toured all over Australia and New Zealand including regular appearances at Tamworth & other major Country Music festivals. Corrobboree 2000 in Sydney, Yeperenye Federation Festival in Alice Springs, Royal Melbourne Show,have all been up in the top list of favorite performances. The Magic Coolamon debut in 2007 was an exciting venture and more recently the production of Pmarra Country.
Warren is a regular DJ on CAAMA Radio playing all his favourite country tunes and encourages many of the newer artists of all musical genres in the area. He is in high demand for his guitar skills and can often be seen helping out on stage, in recording studios or penning songs for his many friends and talented family in the music industry in the Northern Territory.
